How many would know what bubur lambuk is? Well, apart from our Malay colleagues this delicacy might be pretty foreign. Little did I know, bubur lambuk is a Terengganu specialty served during the fasting month of Ramadan? In a nutshell, it is rice porridge cooked with different kinds of herbs, sweet potatoes, fish crackers, dry prawn, beef, chicken, etc. Daun kesum, pucuk manis, pucuk paku that are found growing on peat swamp forest are also used. The taste, yummy!

Children in hangar

Our Communications team recently organized two bubur lambuk handing out sessions on 20th August 2010 in SZB and 3rd September 2010 in SSZ, PMIM. Our Chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Munir Majid, MD, Tengku Dato’ Azmil Zahruddin and senior members of the management were on hand to support this joyous occasion by giving out bubur lambuk in containers to colleagues. Throughout these two events, colleagues of various races helped out in whatever means possible; stacking up containers, setting up canopies, arranging chairs and etc. It wasn’t only our Malay colleagues that got to enjoy this delicacy; colleagues from all races got to receive this delicacy from the senior management themselves.

Chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Munir Majid, MD, Tengku Dato’ Azmil Zahruddin and senior members of the management distributing bubur lambuk at PMIM

This was made possible by LSG Skychefs who so kindly donated the delicacy for both events. All-in-all, there were 3,000 containers! To top this off, LSG provided a variety of food and drinks for the breaking of fast in PMIM, SSZ.

Dato Captain Mohd Fauzi Aziz

Not forgetting the under privileged, the event on 3rd September also included a group of 19 children aged between 8 to 16 years old from Rumah Anak-anak Yatim/Miskin Taman Baiduri Dengkil. They had a blast with a talk by Abdul Latif Sulaiman from Aircraft Maintenance Unit, followed by a visit to Hangar 6 where the children had a rare glimpse of various aircrafts. To add icing to the cake, they were treated to a short tour within the B747-400 aircraft which is currently Malaysia Airlines’ largest in its fleet. At about 4:30pm, the children were ferried to the PMIM where Dato' Captain Mohd Fauzi Aziz gave an inspiring career talk; not forgetting the story of the three pontianaks (malay, for vampire) which got the children laughing their hearts out!

On a whole, both events reflected the multicultural Malaysia we so cherish. This reminds me of the malay phrase, “mengeratkan silaturahim” which in English symbolizes oneness and closeness. If you ask me what we’ve managed to achieve through these two events I’d say without a doubt, 1MH!

In view of Ramadan only light refreshment was made available for non Muslim crew. It was however still a very joyful celebration.

Flight Management Building was decorated with the Jalur Gemilang to create the Merdeka atmosphere for the occasion. Our Juara Team, Ctrl. Chang Ching Kwang, IFS S&P Amirudin Salleh and me were at FMB from 0645hrs giving out MH Juara’s Malaysian Flag Button to crew who were going for flight.

All flights departing KUL to Domestic, Regional and London were identified as ‘FEEL MH’ Showtime sector. Our team ensured that each flight identified had a ‘FEEL MH’ Showtime pack to create the Merdeka ambience in-flight to delight our esteemed passengers traveling with us on this auspicious day.

We were very fortunate to have with us two young budding photographer, IFS S&P Amirudin son and daughter, to send crew off for flight. We the CCLOP Juara Team on behalf of our Mr. Gunalan would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who had contributed to the success of this event.

M Malaysia Airlines was born in 1947.
E Everyday we work as oneMH team.
R Rainbow hung in the sky after the heavy rain.
D Day by day Malaysia Airlines is growing & having gone through tremendous changes.
E Early 70’s - we operated our 1st flight as Malaysia Airlines. Each year after 2006, we received lots of AWARDS!
K Key to success = We Care about our CUSTOMERS, COLLEAGUES, COMPANY, and not forgetting ourselves & our family!
A And then we can fly high in the happy blue sky!

By TYO Reservation/Ticketing team

On 2 April 1947, MH took to the skies with its first commercial flight as the national airline. Many changes and innovation has happened since 1947. We have achieved fast growth and success. As a result, today, MH flies nearly 50,000 passengers daily to over 100 destinations worldwide.

Since then we've changed from a small Southeast Asian airline to a global one, flying to 6 continents over 100 destinations spanning over half a century. Since we have launched flights to TYO, we have undergone various transformations, such as changing flights from via HKG TPE to direct flights in the early 90s. We have seen growth in our business since then.

In 2008, we received the World’s Best Cabin award. Without working together with a positive teamwork, we would never be able to achieve this.

Now we are united than ever before under oneMH, a Juara programme which was launched amongst all the staff early this year. We are trying to deliver Malaysian Hospitality externally and internally. Recently, the “Think Customer First” was introduced by HQ. This is a long-term initiative.

Our current aim is to operate out of Haneda come mid November 2010. We will need to work even harder under the oneMH banner to attain this and to transform ourselves into a more successful company. In the spirit of Merdeka, we need to get back to the basics of our business, learn more from successful carriers and listen to the staff and customers’ voice. Now, we are trying to make Haneda as our hub in Japan just like how we intend to transform BKI as a leading hub. We hope we can deliver Malaysian Hospitality and successful growth via this station.

I have been a few days in Bandung and I have no difficulty communicating with the local people. They are very friendly to others even if you are a foreigner. Now the people are more heterogeneous because the amount of outsiders increased every year.

The most important is much Halal Food sold in each part of the city. Many traditional foods are various as well. If you’re crazy of fashionable trend and up to date fashion style, there are many factory outlets spread around the city that you can buy fashionable costumes with various prices. The most famous place is on Jalan Cihampelas which offers jeans and its accessories. Later, people knows “Cimol” or “Cibadak Mall” where you can buy new and old costumes imported from abroad with lower process. Since I go to Bandung, I know that young people here are very fashionable and unique. They wear up to date costumes especially to the campus.

Its famous handicraft is “Wayang Golek” a wooden doll handled by hand and the show directed by a man called “Dalang”. The Cibaduyut’s shoes are also worth to be your souvenirs.
